I was as prepared as a boyscout- A boyscout with a cabinet full of canned veggies. For the past two summers I've told myself to start(or continue) my grandmother's legacy of canning. Just saying that makes me feel 10 years older..or should I say 10 years wiser? I have fond memories of helping my grandmother prepare various summer yummies so that she could perserve them for later. A great benefit of simple living in the country. I would help her make cheese, jellies, canned veggies, and homemade bread. It's something I'd taken for granted up until recent years.
Currently, the great debate over the true sources of our food has raised awareness and just warning that we should go back to our roots. Even if that means a little more elbow grease in the kitchen. So it's my small dream to spend some time with my grandmother so she can lend me a bit of her knowledge(and maybe supplies) so that I can eat a little better, help a few more local farmers, and keep a little bit of my grandmother with me forever.
